A Bharatiya Janata Party youth leader was found dead with his throat slit in Shopian district on Thursday, police said.
A police official said that the throat-slit body of Gowhar Ahmad Bhat of Bonagam Shopian, the youth district president of BJP, was found from an orchard near Kiloora this evening.
Senior superintendent of police Shopian Shri Ram said they are investigating the incident “from all angles.”
Soon after the incident, BJP’s national general secretary Ram Madhav tweeted: “Tragedy strikes at BJP. Gowhar Bhat, district youth president in Shopian in Kashmir killed by terrorists. Met me just three days ago in Srinagar.”
In another tweet, Madhav said: “Body found with throat slit. Price we pay in our fight against terrorism. Deep condolences. These sacrifices make our determination stronger.”
BJP chief Amit Shah also took to twitter and wrote: “Pained to learn about the brutal murder of our @BJYM district president Gowhar Ahmad in Shopian. My deepest condolences to his family.”
In two subsequent tweets, Shah wrote: “Terrorists must realise that they cannot stop the youth of the Valley from choosing a better future for themselves. BJP stands firmly with the family of Gowhar Ahmad in this moment of immense grief.”
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti strongly condemned the killing Gowher Ahmad. “The Chief Minister has expressed condolences with the bereaved family. She has appealed to all sections of society to come forward to end this cycle of violence in the State,” an official spokesman said on Thursday evening.
