BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav Thursday has told party leaders from Valley that the government won’t fiddle with the Article 35-A and Article 370 till they are in the coalition with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jammu and Kashmir, sources said.
Sources said Madhav held closed door meeting with BJP Kashmir unit workers and functionaries at Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh’s residence, here.
“During the meeting, Madhav assured the BJP workers that the Government of India (GoI) will stick to the Agenda of Alliance with PDP and won’t fiddle with Article 35A or Article 370,” sources privy to the meeting said.
Article 35A gives special privileges to residents of Jammu and Kashmir while Article 370 grants special status to the state within Indian constitution.
In the meeting, which was third chaired by senior BJP leader in Valley since Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s recent visit to Kashmir, Madhav told the party functionaries that the GoI would fight legally with the Hurriyat and their well wishers, sources said.
“We will fight them (Hurriyat) legally now. We have started the process and more will come. New Delhi has all the reports and details about the property of every person associated with Hurriyat,” sources quoted Madhav as saying.
They said party functionaries demanded reshuffle in the cabinet without any further delay.
“The workers told him that some ministers should be replaced with some new faces as their work has not been satisfactory,” sources said.
According to sources, Madhav told the meeting that forces dealing with law and order in Kashmir have been given clear cut directions from the Home Ministry that civilian killings should be avoided while dealing with law and order situation and during anti-militancy operations.
