Massive protests are underway in Handwara area of north Kashmir against the killing of a local youth allegedly in a fake encounter by army.
Government forces on Tuesday had claimed that they killed a militant during a gun battle in Hafrada forests in Handwara. However, the family of the youth claimed that the slain youth is their missing son, identified as Shahid Ahmad Mir of Daril Tarathpora Handwara.
Meanwhile, massive protests are on at Tarathpora Chowk in Handwara where body of Slain youth has been placed in the mid of the Chowk and agitating people are demanding an FIR to be lodged against the troops involved in the incident.
Meanwhile deputy commissioner, Kupwara Khalid Jehangir, is on spot persuading the agitating people to bury the slain youth and police has issued No Objection Certificate in favour of slain youth.
“We are ascertained about the troops involved in the incident once that is stabled fir will be lodged against them,” Jehanger told Kashmir Post.
However, agitating people are refusing to perform final rites of the slain youth till they are shown FIR copy and NOC in favour of deceased youth.
Complete shutdown is being observed in Handwara and Kupwara area of north Kashmir against the killing.
Meanwhile, Protests against the killing of a local youth allegedly in a fake encounter by army took a violent turn on Thursday as protesters torched an official vehicle of the district administration of Kupwara.
