A fierce encounter is underway between militants and forces in Harkipora area of district Pulwama.
Police officials told Kashmir Post that forces and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint operation following a tip off about the presence of militants at Harkipora.
They said when forces were moving towards a particular area, the militants hiding there opened fire which was retaliated, ensuing in a fierce encounter.
Initial reports suggest that three to four LeT militants including a top commander are believed to be trapped.
Heavy exchange of fire was going on when this report was filed.

Top LeT commander Abu Dujana is reportedly trapped along with two associates inside a residential house in Harkipora area of distirct Pulwama on Tuesday.

Police has said that the encounter started on Tuesday morning following a tip off about the presence of militants at Harkipora.
Abu Dujana is one of the most wanted militants in Kashmir. So far he has managed to give slip to forces at least three to four times.
A police official told Kashmir Post that “The cordon around the Harkipora village has been tightened.”
Dujana took over after top Lashker Commander Abu Qasim was killed in an encounter in Kulgam in 2015.
Reportedly, Dujana is accused in several militant attacks on forces in Kashmir valley. His name has also cropped in Pampore and Udhampur attacks.
