Members say the GST has grave implications for handicraft business
The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) today convened a meeting of its members connected with the handicraft industry.
KCCI secretary general Faiz Ahmad Bakshi said the meeting was held to assess the “impact and anguish caused to the stakeholders by implementing the goods and services tax (GST) in the state.”
“The meeting was attended by a large number of members, artisans, weavers, manufacturers and dealers of handicrafts. All participants in one voice expressed anguish over the implementation of the GST in the state. They felt the GST had its grave implications on the day to day handicraft business of lakhs of people and the government had deceived them in this regard by not fulfilling its promises,” Bakshi said.
“After a detailed discussion on the adverse impact of the GST on the Kashmiri handicrafts affecting persons right from the artisans/weavers to the dealers, it was decided that the KCCI should use all resources at its command to ensure that the GST in the case of J&K is rolled back and fiscal autonomy of the state is restored without any more loss of time,” he added.
The meeting was presided over by Mushtaq Ahmad Wani, president of the KCCI.
