Rajnath reviews Kashmir situation; ‘Tamgha-e-Jurrat’ for Burhan Wani announces Shabir Shah

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday chaired a high-level meeting to review the security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of slain Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Burhan Wani’s first death anniversary on Saturday.

Minister of State Home Affairs Hansraj Ahir, Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi, Inspector General of National Security Guard (NSG) and other senior officers were also present in the meeting.

The security forces and intelligence agencies are apprehending trouble in the Kashmir Valley on Wani’s death anniversary.

Widespread protests erupted in the Kashmir valley after Burhan’s death. Kashmir Valley was placed under curfew for consecutive 53 days and it was lifted from all parts on August 31, 2016. However, the unrest continued for about five months after Burhan’s death in which over 90 people were killed.

Meanwhile, the incarcerated chairman of Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Shabir Ahmad Shah on Thursday announced the posthumous title “Tamgha-e-Jurrat” (Star of Courage) for slain militant commander Burhan Muzaffar Wani for his “courage, steadfastness, and immense contribution” to the freedom movement of Jammu Kashmir.
He also called for remembering the birthplace of Burhan Wani as Burhan Valley.
Shah, as per a statement issued to press, made the announcement in a high-level meeting called at Freedom Party’s Sanat Nagar headquarters.
The pro-freedom leader said he will personally hand over the title on behalf of Kashmiri nation to the family of Shaheed Burhan Wani as soon as authorities release him from house detention.
In his address during the meeting, Shah said the way Burhan Wani highlighted the freedom struggle of Jammu Kashmir across the world and gave a new direction to the movement is a guide for our coming generations.
He hailed the people of Tral for their strong resilience and pro-freedom spirit and said the step to remember the birthplace of Burhan Wani as Burhan Valley was taken so that “our coming generations would also remember and learn about our brave martyrs.”
“We hope the brave people of Tral will emerge stronger with each passing day and continue keeping alight the candle of freedom,” Shah said.
Meanwhile, a party delegation led by its secretary general Moulana Abdullah Tari visited the residence of Burhan Wani and offered a Shawl to the respected father of the slain commander.
Tari also conveyed the message of Shabir Ahmad Shah to Muzaffar Wani and said the whole nation is having a great respect for the family.
