The first batch of pilgrims for the Amarnath yatra will depart from the Jammu base camp on June 28 under tight security. All arrangements have been made by the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) and the state government for the smooth conduct of the annual 40-day pilgrimage. Two militants killed in Rafiabad encounter

Two militants were killed in a gunfight with government forces in Pazalpora area of Rafiabad in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, police said. The gunfight erupted late last night after police, army and CRPF cordoned off the area after inputs about the presence of militants in the village. Army has set up a new camp in south Kashmir’s Shopian district while two more such camps would be set up in its “volatile” areas in coming days. In a landmark decision the state government Monday made Kashmiri, Bodhi and Dogri languages compulsory for 9th and 10th classes in the areas where these languages are spoken as mother tongue. As per government order no 333 EDU OF 2017 issued on 19-06-17, the three regional languages will be treated as compulsory sixth subject for class 9 from academic session 2018-19 and for class 10 from 2019-20 in all government-run and recognized private schools of the state. The Centre has supplied security forces in Jammu and Kashmir with over one lakh plastic bullet to control violent crowds in the valley. The Centre has also supplied security forces with PAVA (made of pelargonic acid vanillyl amide, an organic compound found in natural chilli pepper) shells that are more pungent, to increase their effectiveness.
