The widening and upgrade work on a 170-km stretch of the Srinagar-Jammu national highway has been completed at a cost of Rs 5,011 crore, while work is in full swing on the remaining portion of the highway, including some tunnels and bypasses.
This was disclosed in a review meeting held by the Chief Minister to monitor the progress of widening of the national highway.
The meeting was informed that 67 per cent work on the 68-km Srinagar-Qazigund stretch had been completed while work was on to get the proposed Banihal tunnel ready at the earliest.
The tunnel was expected to be complete by the end of the year, while the entire stretch would be readied by next year, the representatives of the project executing agency informed the Chief Minister.
Similarly, Pampore and Bijbehara bypass projects are almost completed and likely to be thrown open to public by next month, she was informed.
The Chief Minister in a separate meeting also reviewed the status of several road and bridge projects in the state being undertaken by the R&B Department.
She directed the department to muster all resources to get the projects completed within time and in no way miss the deadlines.
She was informed that the department had fixed a target of macadamising 1,000 km road length in Kashmir and Jammu provinces this year, while several steps were taken to ensure quality material was used in the projects.
