Expressing solidarity with the families of Bomay Sopore and Begum Bagh Kakpora, Syed Ali Geelani today said the role of police and their track record in past has always remained doubtful.
“Till now not a single culprit has been brought to book and it is as such an attempt to cool down the people’s resentment and hush up the cases,” Geelani said.
Geelani expressed anguish over the Bomay Sopore and Begum Bagh Kakpora incidents in which Geelani said forces severely thrashed members of families.
“Forces have been deployed to create nineties like situation in villages and towns,” said Geelani.
Terming it “frustration of authorities” and outcome of unprecedented poll boycott by people, Geelani said: “Forces enjoy backing of their masters and as such are harassing and intimidating civilians. They are following ‘Dovel Doctrine’, and are accountable to none,” Geelani said, adding: “Forces are doing this under well thought out plan to harass civilians and particularly our youth.”
Geelani said: “There will be no truth in the police version and they are equally responsible for the incidents and their main aim is to shelve such cases. There seems to be no letup in harassment of people and unless these cases are investigated by impartial agencies there are apprehension that these incidents will be repeated and will go unnoticed.”
Reacting to the arrest of senior Hurriyat leader, Gh Mohammad Khan Sopori, Hurriyat (G) said: “75-year-old leader is suffering from multiple ailments.”
Statement expressed serious concern over his “deteriorating” health condition.
In its appeal to International Red Cross, Hurriyat (G) impressed upon them to take cognizance and play their role for his release.
