Kashmir unrest, Babri order top agenda at BJP core group meeting headed by Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today called for a meeting of the core group of the BJP over the recent Kashmir unrest and the Supreme Court’s Babri ruling.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today called for a Bharatiya Janata Party core group meeting at this residence.
The meeting began at around 3 pm today and saw attendance by senior Union ministers Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj, Nitin Gadkari and Venkaiah Naidu.
According to sources, the top issues on the agenda of the meeting included current unrest in Kashmir and the Supreme Court ruling that LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Uma Bharti, among others, must stand trial on charges of criminal conspiracy in the Babri demolition case.

Tension In Kashmir

The Kashmir Valley has seen violent clashes between civilians and security forces, especially since the recent Srinagar Parliamentary by-poll.
Eight people died in clashes on the day of the by-election and the violence prompted the Election Commission to postpone the Anantnag by-poll.
Farooq Abdullah won the Srinagar by-election, which saw extremely low turnout.
The situation in the Valley has been particularly tensed since a few videos purportedly showing security forces using extreme force to quell protesters.
One video of an Indian Army unit using a civilian as a human shield particularly generated mass outrage in Kashmir.

Advani To Face Conspiracy Charges
The Supreme Court today ruled in favour of a Central Bureau of Investigation’s appeal that sought the restoration of criminal conspiracy charges against veteran BJP leaders LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Uma Bharti, among others.
The apex court also ordered a time-bound trial, ruling that the Lucknow judge who will hear the case shall not be transferred until the judgement is delivered.
