The J&K High Court has set up five teams of lawyers to act as court commissioners and report about the condition of highways and roads from north to south Kashmir.
The teams have been asked to present their respective reports in March while the matter has been posted for consideration in the first week of April.
These orders were passed today by a division bench of Justice Sudhakar Ramalingam and Justice Tashi Rabstan in a PIL about the condition of highways in Kashmir.
The lawyers’ teams have been constituted in order to oversee and inspect the conditions of various roads in the Valley so that the court be informed properly about their conditions, the High Court observed in its order today.
One team of three lawyers has been asked to oversee the road condition from Qazigund to Srinagar with the help of an official each of RAMKI and the NHAI and report to the court by the next date along with photographs.
From Srinagar to Sonamarg, a team of another two lawyers has been directed to inform the court about the upgrade of the NHAIroad project.
Similarly, for the stretch from Bandipora to Sumble in north Kashmir, which falls under the BRO, two lawyers have been appointed as commissioners to oversee the road with officials concerned and report to the court.
Regarding the stretch of the national highway from Srinagar to Sopore in north Kashmir, two more lawyers have been appointed. The High Court was also informed that the road from Awantipora to Tral in south Kashmir was in a dilapidated condition. Two more lawyers have been appointed to inspect the road and report to the court.
The Chief Engineer, Roads and Buildings, Public Works Department, was present in the court today. He apprised the court about the road conditions and difficulties being faced by the department.
The court also impressed upon the commissioners and officers to work as one team and to ensure the orders of the court were implemented.
