March to UN office on Feb 10: Resistance leaders
Joint resistance leadership Tuesday reiterated its strike call for February 9 and February 11 while it has called for a march to UN office here on February 10.
According to a statement issued by the joint resistance leaders – Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik – people have been urged to observe complete statewide shutdown on February 9 and February 11.
“Shutdown must be observed on February 9 and February 11 as a tribute to Muhammad Afzal Guru and Muhammad Maqbool Bhat who were executed on these days respectively,” the statement said.
While reiterating the demand for the return of the mortal remains of Bhat and Guru who were buried in Tihar Jail premises, the resistance leaders said that although it is purely a human issue, New Delhi is reluctant to this demand thereby violating all the principles of morality.
Calling Bhat and Guru as the heroes of Kashmiri nation, the leadership said, “We are proud of them.”
“Kashmiri nation is resisting the occupation for last 70 years and during this period lakhs of our valiant and brave people have sacrificed their precious lives for this cause. But Bhat and Guru are two separate cases among these who were detained, executed and buried in the same jail and in the same month,” the trio said. “Bhat has a special status in the freedom struggle of Kashmir and if he can be termed as the first soldier of the struggle then Guru later became a new milestone of the freedom struggle by setting a new trend.”
Referring to last letter written by Guru, the leadership said that it clearly depicts that “he was an ideological person and his emotions had the backing of faith, intellect and conscience.”
The leaders said the best way of paying tributes to Bhat and Guru is that the nation should not forget these brave sons of the soil who sacrificed their present for the future of the nation.
“Until the mortal remains of both the martyrs are not returned to their families, the whole nation will not budge on this demand,” they said.
