Authorities are likely to impose restrictions in parts of Kashmir on Wednesday to foil the ‘Kulgam Chalo’ program of separatists.
Director General of Police, SP Vaid told Kashmir Post that restrictions would be imposed in parts of the Valley in order to maintain law and order during the day.
“We will impose restrictions in parts of the valley to ensure peace,” DGP said.
He said curfew may be imposed in parts of the Valley if the situation demands.
“We will impose sort of restrictions in parts of the Valley so that people face minimum inconveniences. Curfew would be imposed only if such a situation arises,” he said.
“We will impose curfew only if compelled for it,” he added.
The joint separatist leadership Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani, Hurriyat (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman, Mohammad Yasin Malik had called for Kulgam Chalo to protest the recent killings by forces during a gunfight in Frisal area of Kulgam district.
Meanwhile, official sources told Kashmir Post that police and paramilitary CRPF would be deployed in strength in sensitive areas.
“All the measures are to be taken to prevent people from taking to streets and march towards Kulgam,” they said.
Deputy Commissioner Kulgam told Kashmir Post that precautionary measures would be in place across the district. “All the precautionary measures will be taken in order to ensure peace in the district,” he said.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan and Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Farooq Lone did not respond to repeated calls from this reporter.
Over 30 people were injured in clashes with security personnel in Frisal Kulgam after four militants, two army men and a civilian were killed in an encounter in the area on Sunday. A 22-year-old youth, who had sustained critical bullet injuries in the firing on protesters near the encounter site, succumbed to injuries later.
