Bad Weather claims 2 lives in Jammu Region, Road connectivity snapped for 4th Day

Two persons were killed in different weather-related accidents in the Jammu region.
In the first incident, a 12-year-old boy was killed and four of his family members had a miraculous escape after a tree crashed into their house in Bonjwah village of Kishtwar district on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Yaseen, son of Noor Mahi Kholi of Patnazi village of Bonjwah tehsil of Kishtwar. His body was pulled out of the debris by locals and the police. Later, the body was handed over to the family for last rites.
The incident took place around 12:30 am, when a massive (Deodar) tree fell onto the house of Noor Mahi Kholi followed by strong windstorm. Five members of the family got trapped under the mud house.
Kishtwar Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Sundeep Wazir said, “Due to heavy rainfall and windstorm in village, a huge tree fell on a mud house resulting in death of a minor boy, but other family members had a miraculous escape.”
“After hearing screams of the trapped family members, nearby villagers and the police rushed to the spot and started the rescue operation,” the officer said.
In another incident, a 60-year-old man lost his life when lightning struck him in Miari Gujran village in Rajouri district. The incident took place around 7.30 pm last evening.
The deceased has been identified as Nazir Alam, son of Fateh Mohammad.
Road connectivity snapped
Meanwhile, the road connectivity to the Kashmir valley also remained snapped after overnight rains triggered fresh landslides, shooting of stones and snowfall at several places on the Jammu-Srinagar highway. The historic 84-km-long Mughal road, connecting Shopian in Kashmir valley to Bafliaz in Poonch district, which provides alternate road link to Kashmir, also remained closed for traffic due to the accumulation of snowfall.
Thousands of Kashmir-bound passengers had been stuck in the winter capital, waiting for the reopening of the highway.
According to the Ramban Police Control Room (PCR), the overnight incessant downpour caused the massive landslides at Mehar, Panthial, Seri, Digdol and Gangru places on the Jammu-Srinagar highway besides the shooting stones at Sherbibi, Nachlana, Anokhi Fall, Seri Morh and Mehad.
“About 3-inch snowfall had accumulated near Jawahar tunnel, which had made the road slippery and not fit for movement of vehicles,” the highway officials said.
They added, “It was snowing continuously at Jawahar tunnel and the Umo area up to Titanic Morh on the highway. About 4-inch fresh snow has accumulated while it continued to rain in the rest of the Qazigund sector.”
Superintendent of Police (Traffic), National Highway, Sanjay Bhagat said the 52-km-long Ramban-Gool road was also blocked due to landslides and flash flood in the Chhapri nullah, but the 50-km Batote-Doda road was reportedly opened for light motor vehicles this morning.
