The Jammu region has more power defaulters than Kashmir, who have failed to pay the electricity dues, official documents have revealed.
As per the information provided by Power Development Department (PDD) in response to a question of NC MLC Surinder Mohan Amabrdar, it has been revealed that total number of defaulters, who have not cleared their power dues in Jammu division, is 212405.
The number of power defaulters in Kashmir stands at 206645.
According to official figures, the state and central government offices have also defaulted in the payment of dues and number of such departments in Jammu region is 6960. “In Kashmir division, number of such departments is 1326.”
The number of domestic supply consumers is 170220 in Jammu region and 169222 in Kashmir, the statistics reveal.
It states that the defaulters in commercial category was 27308 in Jammu region and 32454 in Kashmir while those in the bulk consumption category was 3043 in Jammu and only 4 in Kashmir division.
The defaulters in HT and LT industrial category respectively is 3116 and 5162 in Jammu and 37 and 2449 in Kashmir, further state the official figures.
As per the figures, the number of defaulters in PDD Jammu district circle was 63258, Samba 18603, Kathua 28222, Rajouri 28074, Poonch 14781, Udhampur 16099, Reasi 9731, Batote 10173, Doda 12070 and 11394 in Kishtwar electricity division.
In Kashmir division, Srinagar electricity division circle had 30170 defaulters, 37397 in Budgam, 21917 in Anantnag, 12682 in Kulgam, 12696 in Bandipora, 13983 in Pulwama, 10287 in Shopian, 24097 in Kupwara and 34289 in Baramulla.
The PDD data also shows that there has been a significant increase in the power tariff recovery in last two years.
In 2014-15, the power revenue realization was 1737 crores which increased to 1937 in the year 2015-16. The increase has been witnessed in both the commercial and domestic category of consumers.
The district wise recovery of revenue has been Rs 537 crore in Jammu, 99 in Samba, 181 in Kathua, 57 in Rajouri, 25 in Poonch, 78 crore in Udhampur, 46 in Reasi, 19 , 12 and 16 in Ramban, Doda and Kishtawar districts. In Kashmir division the recovery has been 349 crore in Srinagar, 45 in Budgam, 25 in Ganderbal, 30 in Bandipora, 99 in Baramulla, 37 in Kupwara, 31 in Kulgam, 112 in Pulwama, 20 crore in Shopian and 83 crore in Anantnag. In Leh and Kargil the recovery was 18 and 7 crore respectively in the last fiscal year.
