The life in the Valley remained crippled on Monday and the unrest in Kashmir will be completing four months on Tuesday.
A school suffered damage in mysterious fire in Langate area in border district of Kupwara while father of two girls was booked under infamous Public Safety Act (PSA) in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
Shops, business establishments, petrol pumps and educational institutions remained closed in Srinagar and other parts of the Valley today in response to the separatists strike. The public transport was off the roads. However, some private vehicles and three-wheelers were plying on the roads.
The shutdown will be completing four months on Tuesday.
Kashmir has been observing shutdown since July 9, a day after Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani was killed by troops in South Kashmir’s Kokernag area.
At least 92 people have been killed, over 13000 injured and more than 9000 including separatist leaders, youth and government employees arrested in the Valley during last four months.
A police official said restrictions under Section 144 prohibiting assembly of more than four people remained in force across the Valley.
He said adequate security deployment was made in sensitive and vulnerable area in Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir to maintain law and order and foil anti-India rallies.
Meanwhile, clashes broke out between youth and force personnel in Kareemabad area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district this evening after troops cordoned off the village.
The youth took to roads and pelted stones on force personnel, who were laying siege in the area. The force personnel retaliated and resorted to baton charge and fired tear smoke shells to disperse the agitating youth. The clashes continued for some time.
School building gutted
A building of Government Middle School at Badran Payeen, Langate in Kupwara district was damaged in mysterious fire in the evening.
The locals said the administrative block of the school was gutted in the fire.
Police have registered a case and launched investigations.
Father of two girls booked under PSA
Sources said Nazir Ahmad Rather son of Mehmood Rather of Watapora in Bandipora district was booked under PSA and shifted to Kotbalwal jail, Jammu. Rather is father of two girls.
At least 44 people have been booked under PSA in the Bandipora district.
Among four tehsils of Bandipora, most number of PSA detainees is from Sumbal and Hajin area, where 30 persons have been booked under the Act followed by Bandipora, where 14 have been detained.
Meanwhile, police picked up three persons on charges of stone pelting in Naidkhai village of Hajin town during a nocturnal raid.

A police spokesman said situation across the valley remained peaceful and under control.
He said during the day, no untoward incident was reported from any part of the valley.
“Police continued with its necessary security deployments on some vulnerable point to thwart away any untoward incident of disruption of peace and order,” he added.
