Div Com assures students of respite : Fee Controversy

Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir Baseer Ahmed Khan Friday assured student community that administration will find ways and means to lessen the burden of parents who are being asked by private schools to pay the dues for the months when Valley witnessed unrest, strike and curfew.
Jammu Kashmir Students Welfare Association presented a memorandum to Divisional Commissioner Kashmir seeking his intervention into the much important matter. Association alleged that some private schools are denying the study material to the students till they clear their fees despite the schools have remained shut since July in the wake of ongoing Kashmir unrest.
The Association has informed Divisional Commissioner Kashmir that some private schools have taken parents hostages and are “demanding school fees from them”. “Complaints are being received about DPS Athwajan and Budgam, Iqbal Memorial Institute (IMI) Srinagar, JK Public School, Saint Joseph’s Higher Secondary School Baramulla, New Convent Gogjibagh, FEI Naikbagh Nowgam, Lawrence Vidhya Bhawan, International School of Kashmir and other schools who are taking parents hostage over tuition fee or sending SMSs to the parents asking them to clear the fees,” the memorandum submitted to Divisional Commissioner read.
Association President Danish Bhat said that Divisional Commissioner assured them the he will look into the matter and take all the measures to give a respite to the affected parents.
