People who will give any information regarding the 31 boys will be rewarded: Police
Dead wanted by police for stone pelting
A youth who was martyred during the 2010 anti-India uprising by the government forces figures in the list of the 117 youth whom the police have warned of detention under draconian Public Safety Act.
The police have pasted a poster listing the 117 youth in Narwara, Eidgah locality of old city.
Anees Khursheed Ganai son of Khursheed Ahmad Ganai, who was killed in 2010 by CRPF at Eidgah, figures at serial 56 in the poster that also mentions the parentage.
Local residents said the poster was pasted on an electric pole during curfew period and when the police left they pointed towards it so that it won’t go unnoticed.
They said that most of the listed youth already stand booked under several cases, mostly stone pelting incidents during 2010.
“This is a useless exercise,” said a Narwara local, adding many of “these youth are working outside the state.”
“The list is aimed at only threatening their relatives or even extract money from their families,” he added.
To crack a whip on youth in Kashmir, police in a first has issued a list of stone pelters in the city on Tuesday.
Posters were pasted on the walls of downtown areas with names of ‘wanted’ boys who allegedly pelt stones and incite violence. The list was put up by the Police Station of North Zone, Srinagar.
Thirty one boys have been enlisted and a reward has been announced for any information about their whereabouts.
The ongoing unrest following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen Commander Burhan Wani, angry youth took to the streets followed by unending protests, which allegedly has made police to come up with this intimidating list.
Talking to Kashmir Post SDPO Khanyar said “This order came from our higher authorities that we followed.”
He added that Police has been taking such steps in order to stabilize the situation and believe that the consequences will be positive.
However the residents of the concerned areas feel that the action of police is a strategy to terrorize youth and their families.
“The said list is made with intention to divide people from one another, to create a gap us, “alleged one of the residents.
One protester said that they don’t have anything to hide as they are ‘in front’ of the police. “We are in front of them protesting, not hiding in places then what makes us wanted? This is just to mislead people, “he said.
However the list has not scared the protesting boys. They say that they won’t stop tell they achieve their goal. “We are not going to stop protesting this time until we are free from these oppressors , this situation today is a do or die one.”
According to these boys, the list shouldn’t include 31 boys only but every single Kashmiri, who fight for their rights and justice. For them, they say, the reason to protest can be seen in hospitals and graveyards, where innocent Kashmiri lie in rest maimed.
“Our land is burning. Everyone is on roads protesting against the injustice done to us and we will continue protesting peacefully,” said a young boy who works in a MNC and has come all the way from Bangaluru to Kashmir to support the wave.
The list allegedly contains names that have nothing to do with stone pelting or inciting people to protest.
