Clashes in Srinagar, Anantnag; Mehbooba meets Rajnath to discuss Kashmir situationPolice on Monday resorted to tear gas shelling in Dalgate area of Srinagar soon after people assembled to offer Assar prayer on the road. Local sources said that as soon as people started offering Assar prayer, on the road as a mark of protest against the civilian killings, police and forces fired many tear smoke shells and did not allow the prayers.
They said that police action was followed by stone pelting by protesters. Meanwhile, Hurriyat (M) spokesman, advocate Shahid ul Islam has strongly condemned the police action in Dalgate and termed it as an act of “state terrorism”. In Anantnag district also police resorted to tear gas shelling in Yuranhal and Batengo areas.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Monday met Home Minister Rajnath Singh here to discuss the situation in the restive valley that has been on the boil for the past one month.
Mehbooba Mufti reached the Ministry of Home Affairs here in the afternoon to discuss the situation in the wake of the Kashmir uprising that was triggered by the killing of militant commander Burhan Wani on July 8.
The Chief Minister arrived in Delhi a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed the Kashmir situation with National Security Advisor Ajeet Doval and Rajnath Singh.Earlier on Monday, opposition parties condemned the silence of the central government over the situation in Kashmir.
Over 55 people have been killed and over 5,000 people injured in clashes between the security forces and protesters.
