The Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) has put out posters asking locals in the town of Pampore in south Kashmir to provide them with the phone numbers of Army and police informers so that they can be tracked and “action” can be taken.
The police have spotted these posters near the Amir-i-Kabir mosque in Pampore. The posters also praised local youth for organising funerals prayers for two fidayeens (suicide attackers) killed in an attack in Pampore on June 25.
It warned locals against sharing information with the “anti-Islam security agencies” and appealed to parents not to allow “daughters and sisters” to visit the Army or the police’s Special Task Force camps.
“This time, informers will not be given any chance to repent. In fact, they will be dispatched to the hell. We are supposed to achieve martyrdom one day. However, the crime of getting us murdered should not come on a Muslim,” reads the poster.
The LeT poster claims that the group has acquired a ‘trace system’ to locate informers if their phone numbers are available.
“We have collected enough information about the Army and the STF sources. The action will be followed soon. We appeal people to share the numbers of such sources [informers] so that we can track them through our tracking system and take the action required.”
The police were verifying the credentials of the poster and have started an investigation to find out who put them up.
These posters have come at a time when the security forces has stepped up counter-insurgency operations in south Kashmir, inflicting heavy casualties on the Lashkar and the Hizbul Mujahideen.
