Frequent traffic jams have become order of the day in Srinagar City, thus affecting the daily chorus of life adversely. The uptown areas are especially ht by this on account of many traffic diversions due to flyover construction.
The traffic mess has added to woes of commoners and made life quiet difficult.
Majority of roads in Srinagar city are in shackles and represent the ugly face of our road management.
Sheikh Sameer, a commuter States -” Travelling from one part of the Srinagar City to other has become a painful experience on account of heavy traffic jams. The government should speed up the construction of flyover and repair the roads as majority of roads in Srinagar are in terrible condition full of potholes. Inefficient traffic management coupled with bad roads is making life miserable for people of Srinagar.”
Pertinently, after the closure of Rambagh-Hyderpora road due to flyover construction, the government has stated that it will try to seek public opinion about using odd-even formula on the pattern of New Delhi.
Minister of State for Transport, Science and Technology Sunil Sharma recently stated that government is aware of the traffic jam arising due to closure of the Rambagh-Hyderpora road and will ‘find a way out’ of the chaotic situation.
“We will discuss the odd-even formula with all the stakeholders, district administration in Srinagar to seek public opinion on it. If the formula works for us, then we will go ahead with it,” Sharma said.
The minister said that the government will “definitely” find a way out to deal with the traffic jam in the city.
