Lays foundation stones of 3 medical colleges in Anantnag, Rajouri and Baramulla
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today accused the national electronic media of spreading hatred against people of Kashmir in the country by focusing on the negative fringe and not highlighting whatever positive had been happening.
“Our electronic media holds discussions on and shows faces of people involved in adverse activities to spread hatred in the country against my people,” Mehbooba said in her speech after she laying the foundation stone of a government medical college in the Dialgam area of Anantnag district.
Union Health Minister JP Nadda and Union Minister of State (independent charge) Jitendra Singh were present on the occasion.
Mehbooba said during her speech that if 10-odd kids hit the streets with masked faces and stone in hand or somebody waved a ‘flag’, it got due space on national television.
“But Naddaji, do you know that a 23-year-old youth from nearby Mattan village recently secured the second position in the IAS?” Mehbooba asked.
She asked him if he knew about a girl artist from Anantnag getting a scholarship in London or a 20-year-old girl from Baramulla becoming the youngest pilot in the country.
“No, you won’t know. Why? Because if our electronic media speaks about these things, it won’t get a chance to abuse and ridicule Kashmiri people,” Mehbooba said.
Pointing towards the crowd, she asked the Union Minister if he could see a single face similar to whatever was being shown on national television.
Mehbooba continued her fiery speech by accusing ‘every other leadership in Kashmir and Delhi’ of lying to people of Kashmir.
“They have shown dreams to Kashmiri people. They showed them clenched fists with the promise of a gift inside, like we sometimes do to kids. When Kashmiri people yielded and walked towards the leaders, they were slapped with the same hand,” Mehbooba said.
She hailed her father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed for being the only leader “who never lied to people of Kashmir since 1960”. “He spoke the truth to them, no matter how bitter,” she said.
Mehbooba said her father had joined hands with Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the promise of taking Kashmiri people out of their misery and, at the same time, did not give any false hope to his people.
“We have an Agenda of Alliance. This medical college is a step towards fulfilling that agenda. I hope all other ministries will come forward and fulfil whatever the agenda has concerning them,” Mehbooba said.
Addressing the gathering, Nadda told people about the steps being taken to enhance the healthcare sector in the state. He said the Prime Minister had a special place in his heart for Kashmir and its people.
“This is probably the reason Jammu and Kashmir is the only state to get two AIIMS facilities, one in Samba and another in Pulwama district. Modi was more than helpful when the proposal of two AIIMS facilities was put forth to him,” Nadda said.
Union Health Minister JP Nadda, Union Minister of State in the PMO Jitendra Singh and local PDP and BJP legislators accompanied Mehbooba during the stone-laying functions for the medical colleges in Rajouriand Baramulla districts.
The foundation stone was first laid at Mehra at Rajouri where 120 kanals has been identified for the medical college, followed by Anantnag, where the new college will be established on 183 kanals. At Kanth Bagh, Baramulla, the medical college will be set up on on 61 kanals.
