Sizzling conditions will prevail in Jammu during the next five days as maximum temperature will hover between 40-42 degrees Celsius, making next week the hottest one since the onset of summer.
According to the advisory issued by Agromet division of SKUAST, Jammu, between May 18-22 the state, especially the plains and kandi areas, will witness a blistering heat wave. The minimum temperature during the period will remain between 26-28 degrees Celsius.
“The maximum and minimum temperature will be above normal by two-four degrees with no possibility of rain during the next week,” said the advisory.
Senior Scientist at Agromet division Dr Mahender Singh said that the entire North India is witnessing a heat wave and it will continue for a few weeks before the arrival of monsoon.
“Summer is at its peak at the moment but water supply is not regular. Though electricity supply is good, you never know what will happen in coming weeks,” said Kuldeep Sharma, a resident of Shastri Nagar.
The temperature in the region has been rising steadily since the last week of April and in the last few days mercury has climbed further, affecting the normal life. The conditions in the peripheral districts of Kathua and Samba, besides parts of Jammu district, including RS Pura, Akhnoor and other plain areas are no different. Even the hilly areas of the region, including Udhampur, Reasi, Rajouri, Poonch, Doda and Kishtwar are witnessing a surging temperature.
