Minister for Health and Medical Education Bali Bhagat Monday said New Delhi has given clearance to Jammu and Kashmir government to establish All India Institute Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Awantipora in Pulwama district.
Replying to the query raised by the legislator Surinder Mohan in the Legislative Council over the budget allocation for the twin AIIMS in Jammu and Kashmir, the minister said the government has identified land in Jammu’s Samba district and at Awantipora in Pulwama district.
“The State government had identified the land for AIIMS hospital at Awantipora in Pulwama district. But some queries were raised that the area falls under the firing range. However, after the survey conducted by a central team it has been found that area does not fall within the firing range,” the minister said.
He said the GoI has given the approval for the establishment of AIIMS at the identified land after the clearance report of the central team.
“Land for another AIIMS to be established in Jammu division has been identified in Samba district, the inspection of these two sites was conducted by the teams constituted by the GoI,” he said.
He said an amount of Rs 4000 crore for two AIIMs under PM’s package programme has been earmarked.
The minister said the projects are to be executed by the GoI and time frames in this regard are yet to be intimated to the state government. “The state government will only be providing the land, water, electricity and other required facilities to both projects. GoI will be executing both projects on its own,” he said.
The Minister further said 222 acres of land have been identified for the AIIMS at Awantipora and 231 at Samba in Jammu region.
