Two senior Kashmiri doctors are in race for coveted post of Director, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh. Director, North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), Shillong, Dr AG Ahangar and Director, Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Dr Showkat Zargar, have submitted their applications for the Director’s post of the PGIMER.
The tenure of the present director Professor Yogesh Chawla is ending on October 7. The last date of the applications was April 20.
Professor Ahangar was working as the head of the Department of Cardio Vascular Thoracic Surgery at SKIMS up to October 2012 after which he was appointed as the Director, NEIGRIHMS, Shillong, which was established by the Government of India in 1987 in lineage of the AIIMS, New Delhi, and PGIMER. Dr Zargar, who is professor, Gastroenterology, is retiring as Director, SKIMS, on May 31, after completing his five-year tenure at the age of 62. The upper age limit for the Director, PGIMER, is 60 years. However, official documents said the retired doctors would be provided age relaxation.
