Restriction on the entry of vehicles of passengers inside the Jammu airport leads to unending traffic chaos on the Satwari-airport road.
As the entry of the vehicles of common passengers is restricted inside the Jammu airport, long queue of private and commercial vehicles outside the airport creates traffic chaos in the area.
“Despite repeated complaints to the airport and traffic authorities, no action has been taken. It creates massive traffic jams from Satwari Chowk to the airport,” said Subash Dogra, a shopkeeper on the airport road.
“Sometime passengers miss their flights and sometime ambulances get stuck in the traffic mess. But the authorities are not taking it seriously,” he added.
On the other hand, people have no other option but to park their vehicles on the roadside to wait for the passengers, as there is no parking space around the airport. Taxi drivers park their vehicles inside the petrol pumps near the airport, but still many of them have to park it on the roadside.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Traffic, Mohan Lal said, “We have warned the members of the taxi association not to park their vehicles on the road and also instructed our personnel to remove the vehicles which obstruct the traffic movement from the road.”
“If someone is waiting for a passenger and the driver is inside the vehicle, we can allow him to wait for 5-10 minutes,” he added.
