DGPK Rajendra Kumar reviewed security during a high-level meeting in Srinagar. All CRPF establishments and units were put on high alert in view of the strike.
“The CRPF deployed in the city and its downtown in particular have been asked to keep a close watch on various developments and maintain active coordination with the police to counter any propaganda or provocation by separatists,” said a CRPF spokesman.
He said DIG Operations Sanjeev Dhundia reviewed the security situation in the downtown and asked officers and men to remain vigilant. “A few weeks back, a grenade targeting CRPF men was thrown amid stone pelting in the Saraf Kadal area, but luckily, the grenade did not explode. The CRPF is effectively dealing with various law and order problems, protests and stone pelting without the use of any lethal force,” he said.
He added that CRPF Inspector General Atul Karwal had directed the men to take effective measures in coordination with the police to tackle any sort of protests or stone pelting with the minimum use of force.
