The BJP will soon be clearing its position on the formation of government in Jammu and Kashmir even as it continues to wait for a response from its ally PDP on the issue.
The PDP, on the other hand, is waiting for the Centre’s move on confidence-building measures that were demanded on February 2.
The political tangle has got further complicated with the BJP’s top leadership insisting that Mehbooba Mufti should assume a position of responsibility in the government before Delhi could respond to her demand for CBMs. The BJP wants her to become the PDP’s legislature party leader first and then take over as Chief Minister.
Sources say the Centre is of the view that it cannot give anything to the party leader unless she represents an institution.
“We are waiting for the outcome of the talks that are going on between both parties to clear our stand on government formation. As of now, both BJP and PDP are allies and there is an Agenda of Alliance which we are committed to,” a senior BJP leader told.
He also confirmed that national general secretary of the party Ram Madhav would be meeting Mehbooba Mufti on February 15, the 40th day of the mourning for Mufti Sayeed.
Ram Madhav is scheduled to pick up the threads of discussion with Mehbooba Mufti.
BJP delegation meets Governor
The BJP on Friday declared that it would soon come out with concrete proposals on government formation. This was conveyed to Governor NN Vohra by a delegation of BJP leaders, who met him in Jammu. On February 2, the BJP had sought 10 days to firm up its plans on government formation.
