BJP gen secy expected to meet Mehbooba Mufti in Srinagar
Hopes of PDP and BJP coming together have rekindled with the saffron party national general secretary Ram Madhav expected to meet Mehbooba Mufti in Srinagar tomorrow.
However, a clear picture on government formation is likely to emerge by the next weekend.
Sources in the PDP claimed that the Central Government had agreed to transfer one of the three National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC)-run projects to the state and provide more financial aid for development purposes.
“After meeting Ram Madhav, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti will be flying to the national Capital where she is expected to meet BJP president Amit Shah and finalise modalities for the formation of the new government,” said a source.
Sources said Mehbooba had demanded transfer of all the three NHPC-run power projects in J&K to the state, but so far the Centre had only agreed to transfer one of them.
“Enough feelers have been sent to the PDP. The Centre is ready to transfer one of the three projects to the state. Besides, more financial packages will be provided for the overall development of the state,” the source added.
After the death of her father and Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on January 7, Mehbooba has shown reluctance in taking over the reins of the state without getting any concrete assurance from the Government of India on various the issues concerning the state.
The BJP did not give a “desired feedback” to Mehbooba in a hurry and waited for over a month to hold a meeting with the PDP president.
The reluctance paved the way for imposition of Governor’s Rule in the state.
