- KU exams, IUST interviews deferred
- Geelani, Mirwaiz condemn ‘worst form of state terrorism’
Both factions of Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq have called for State-wide shutdown on Monday against civilian killings in Pulwama.
Meanwhile, all the Kashmir University examinations scheduled to be held on Monday (February 15) have been postponed and fresh dates will be notified separately. Interviews scheduled to be held at Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Awantipora on Monday have also been postponed.
Two civilians, Shaista Hamid of New Colony Lelhara and Danish Rashid of Ratnipora Pulwama were killed in firing by forces during clashes which erupted following the killing of a local militant in an encounter in Kakapora area of Pulwama district.
Geelani and Mirwaiz termed the civilian killings as the worst form of “state terrorism”.
“India’s rigidity and stubbornness is the only cause of this bloodshed. Kashmiris are peace loving people. However, peace would prevail in Kashmir only when India would accepts ground realities of Kashmir issue and fulfill the promises made with people of Kashmir,” Geelani said
Stating that such incidents should act as eye-opener for international human rights bodies, Mirwaiz said: “Forces enjoy unbridled powers under draconian laws like Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA). Killing of innocent civilians is the worst example of state-sponsored terrorism.”
Meanwhile, police has placed Mirwaiz under house arrest. Hurriyat (G) leaders, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, Ayaz Akbar and Muhammad Ashraf Laya have also been placed under house detention.
