Weatherman on Thursday predicted heavy snowfall in Kashmir Valley in next couple of days even as day temperatures continue to be above normal during the enduring ‘Chillai-Kalan’, the 40-day harshest winter period which ends on January 31.
“Under the influence of a western disturbance, heavy snowfall will take place at few place,” an official of the Meteorological Department in a statement issued to GNS said. The weatherman has also issued warning for heavy on Friday and Saturday and urged the state government to be prepared and maintain vigil.
The official said the day temperature in Srinagar was recorded 11 degrees, four degree above the normal for this time of the year.

While Pahalgam tourist destination in south Kashmir recorded day temperature at 9.8, five degree above the normal. Qazigund, the Gateway of Kashmir Valley, recorded maximum temperature of 13.0 degree Celsius. The day temperature at Kokernag stood at 10.4 degree Celsius. The north Kashmir’s Kupwara recorded maximum of 10.3 degrees Celsius against normal of 7 degrees Celsius.
The MeT official further informed that the Jammu recorded 22.1 degree Celsius on Thursday while the minimum temperatures stood at 7.0, below two degrees normal. (GNS)
