She will meet leaders on government formation soon: Naeem Akhter
PDP president Mehbooba Mufti attended the congregational ‘fateha-khwani’ (prayers for the deceased) at her father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s grave here today.
Hundreds of PDP workers assembled at Dara Shikoh Garden. They attended prayers for their late leader after offering Friday congregational prayers at the park.
Mehbooba arrived from Srinagar around 2 pm. A sombre Mehbooba walked holding the arm of her brother, Mufti Tasadduq. Her daughters and sisters accompanied her to the grave.
Mehbooba stayed at her father’s grave for about 15 minutes while prayers were being chanted for peace of the deceased soul. She refused to speak to the media or anybody present during the prayer meet.
Soon after prayers concluded, Mehbooba went up to the mini-podium in front of the crowd along with her brother and waved to party workers before leaving in a hurry.
Senior party leaders Muzaffar Hussain Beigh, Naeem Akhter, Haseeb Drabu, Mehboob Beg, Imran Ansari and Dilwar Mir were present. All except Akhter refused to talk to the media.
Talking on behalf of party members, Akhter said a decision on government formation would be taken by the party president after deliberations with senior party leaders.
“She is yet to talk to senior leaders of the party. She is still in mourning and you can see it. Deliberations with senior party leaders are going to take place soon,” he said. He refused to comment on a time frame for government formation.
