‘PDP has lost support by tying up with a communal party’
Senior PDP leader and MP Tariq Hameed Karra Tuesday suggested party president Mehbooba Mufti to form the next government with Congress and other secular forces to stop communal forces from spreading in Kashmir.
“A new situation has emerged after the death of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. A new combination, a new government can be formed given the situation today. My considered opinion is that she should open up the ways of talking to Congress, which is a secular party. And all the secular forces should unite and rise above their political positions to form an alliance with PDP. It will be a secular government,” Karra said.
“PDP has lost its support by tying up with a communal party,” he added.
Karra said he has been saying for the last nine months that RSS-BJP is not acceptable to people of Jammu and Kashmir because RSS and BJP have been harbouring a hidden agenda on Kashmir since 1952.
“What RSS could not achieve in last six decades, they have achieved that in the last six months. And not only has it damaged Kashmir, but also PDP,” the PDP MP said.
Terming the situation as fluid, Karra said, “Though it is difficult decision for Mehbooba to take but she should keep the party in her mind and take suggestion of workers as they have been facing a difficult situation after the alliance with BJP. Besides, she should also respect the sentiments of people of Kashmir.”
He said he has no personal animosity with BJP and RSS. “But their core agenda is ideological ingression, administrative ingression, political and religious ingression”.
The senior leader said the PDP president could think on new lines and start a new beginning.
He said BJP has not respected the “Agenda of Alliance” and stoked up controversial issues.
“BJP did not follow the “Agenda of Alliance” whether it be Article 370, Article 35 (A) of the constitution, beef issue, return of power projects, AFSPA, or dialogue with Hurriyat for the resolution of Kashmir or dialogue with Pakistan,” Karra said.
The PDP leader said he believes the idea of grand alliance floated during government formation talks last year is still relevant to defeat communal forces.
Asked whether he thinks that fresh Assembly election should be held because of the present stalemate in the state, Karra said, “Our support base has drastically declined by tying up with BJP. My personal suggestion is that coalition with Congress can help our party to regain its lost ground.”
He said he is always available as a worker for the service of the party to strengthen it.
