Syed Ali Gilani has hoped that Pakistan will maintain consistency and firmness in its policy on Jammu and Kashmir and keep playing an active role in apprising the world community about the human rights violations committed by Indian troops in the territory.
A two-member delegation sent by Syed Ali Gilani met Pakistan High Commissioner, Abdul Basit, in Delhi and conveyed him a message of the veteran leader in this regard, the Gilani-led forum Spokesman, Ayaz Akbar, said in a statement issued in Srinagar.
The delegation comprising Peer Saifullah and Altaf Ahmad Shah also emphasised that Pakistan should play an active role in highlighting the human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir at international fora.
The team held a detailed meeting for one-and-a-half hours with Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit in New Delhi.
“They held a detailed discussion over the recent meeting of Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj with Pakistani officials on the occasion of Heart of Asia Conference in Islamabad and also discussed Pakistan’s Kashmir policy,” the spokesman said.
After Swaraj met Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and other leaders, the two countries decided to engage in a comprehensive bilateral dialogue covering Kashmir and other bilateral issues.
The spokesman said that Deputy High Commissioner and other officials in the Pakistani mission were also present.
“The delegation handed them a message of Syed Ali Gilani that Pakistan should continue to maintain consistency and firmness in its Kashmir policy and play an active role in highlighting the human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir at international forums,” Ayaz Akbar said. The delegation also apprised the Pakistan High Commissioner about the present situation in occupied Kashmir, he added.
