Eid-i-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW) is being celebrated with full reverence, devotion and religious fervour across Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. The day marks the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
Religious processions, special prayer meetings and Seerat conferences are being organized across the State to mark the occasion.
Special functions will be organized at various shrines and Masjids across Kashmir. The biggest congregation will be held at Hazratbal Shrine here, where the devotees in large numbers would offer special prayers and have glimpse of the holy relic of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).Meanwhile, nightlong prayers were held at various shrines and Masjids in Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir.
The largest special prayer meeting was held tonight at DargahHazratbal here, where thousands of devotees from various parts of the Valley participated.
Various Masjids and shrines were today decorated with lights.
Officials said the Government has put in place elaborate arrangements at Hazratbal where people would assemble in large numbers.
Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed on Tuesday took stock of the arrangements at Hazratbal and directed administration to remain alert and available to the devotees during nightlong prayers and Milad celebrations.
Meanwhile, Governor N N Vohra has greeted the people of Jammu and Kashmir on the auspicious occasion of Eid-i-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW) and expressed hope that this auspicious occasion would be the harbinger of harmony, peace, progress and prosperity in the state.
In his message, the Governor said that Islam teaches “us the values of brotherhood, simplicity, compassion and morality, all of which need to be vigorously inculcated in today’s trouble torn world.”
The Governor prayed for the wellbeing and happiness of the people of the State.
Chief Minister, Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, greeted the people on the auspicious occasion of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW).
In his message, while extending greetings to the people, the chief minister described Islam as the religion of peace and Prophet Muhammad (SAW) an apostle of love, affection and brotherhood.
“Almighty Allah has sent Prophet Muhammad (SAW) as Rehmatal-lil-Alimeen (mercy to the mankind),” he added.
Reminding people of the holy Prophet (SAW)’s teachings, the Chief Minister said the holy Prophet (SAW) had tremendous love for humanity in general and compassion for poor and needy in particular.
“I pray to Almighty Allah to reignite our heart and souls with the love of the Prophet (SAW) of Islam,” he added.
Member parliament and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti has also extended greetings to the people on Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW).
She hoped that the auspicious occasion would be the harbinger of harmony and prosperity in the state.
In her message, Mehbooba described the teachings of the Prophet (SAW) of Islam as a guide for all mankind towards the path of righteousness.
She said this day provides “us an opportunity to seek forgiveness and blessings from the Almighty Allah.
“The need for inculcating the virtues of humility, peace, love and compassion, as taught by our beloved Prophet (SAW), are more relevant today than ever before,” she added.
National Conference (NC) president Dr Farooq Abdullah and its working president Omar Abdullah also extended greeting to the whole Ummah in general and Muslims of state in particular on the auspicious occasion of Eid-i-Millad-un-Nabi (SAW).
