National Conference on Wednesday said the tourism industry in the state has been paralyzed due to lack of attention by the central and state governments and absence of a comprehensive flood relief and rehabilitation package.
The party said there is economic slowdown in the state which has added to the miseries of thousands of flood victims.
Tanvir Sadiq, Political Secretary to NC Working President, Omar Abdullah in a statement said: “The tourism infrastructure in the state is in a shambles. Thousands of daily wage earners, artisans and entrepreneurs have lost livelihoods, yet the government is indifferent to their miseries.”
He said the financial package recently announced by the PM “is a cruel joke played upon the flood victims as there is no substantial relief for the flood victims, traders, hoteliers or those who lost their home and hearth to the devastating floods of 2014.”
Meanwhile, a visiting German delegation called on Tanvir.
The NC leader informed the delegation that there is discontent and disappointment in the state as the flood victims have been abandoned by both the central and the state governments.
He said the September floods being the most devastating natural disaster of global level deserved a greater level of global effort and seriousness within the country.
The NC leader also asked the German delegation to encourage its citizens to visit Kashmir and market Kashmir as a tourism destination in Germany to provide impetus to this sector.
