Hurriyat (M) Thursday reviewed the preparations for ‘Solidarity Day’ to pay tributes to the Jammu massacre victims and ‘Million Men March’ on November 06 and 07, a spokesperson said.
The preparations were reviewed on the directions of the Jammu Kashmir Awami Action Committee chief and Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.
Mirwaiz, who has been placed under house arrest for the past two days and barred from performing his religious, political and social obligations, had directed for reviewing the preparations for the two programmes following which Jammu Kashmir Awami Action Committee (AAC) General Secretary, G N Zaki presided over the meeting at Mirwaiz Manzil, Rajouri Kadal and took stock of the arrangements, the spokesperson said in a statement.
Hurriyat (M) Chairman, in a telephonic address, gave directions to the leadership and party workers during the meeting and said it was a matter of satisfaction and pride that despite house arrests of the leaders, detentions of workers and raids on their houses, the meeting was being attended by a large number of party workers
He said the crackdown on the separatist leadership and people of Kashmir was not a new thing or a new experiment in Kashmir but something going on since 1947.
Mirwaiz said Awami Action committee leadership and its workers had witnessed such situation for the past seven decades but it has failed to break their resolve for carrying forward the Kashmir movement.
Mirwaiz paid tributes to the martyrs of Jammu of November 6, 1947 when lakhs of Muslims of Jammu were “killed by communal forces for changing the region’s demography.”
He also paid tributes to the people of Jammu, Chenab Valley and Pir Panjal region for offering sacrifices for the right to self-determination of the people of Jammu Kashmir despite witnessing difficult times.
Directing the party leadership and workers to make the November 6 “Solidarity Day” programme for martyrs of Jammu a success, Mirwaiz said this would be the best opportunity for the people of Kashmir to express solidarity with the people of Jammu and Chenab region.
He also expressed confidence that they would make the November 7 “Million Men March” a success despite government’s crackdown on the separatist leadership, detention of Hurriyat activists, youth and raids on their residences.
Mirwaiz said by making such programmes a success, people will send a message across India and to the international community that Kashmir is a political issue that needs a political solution as per the wishes and aspirations of Kashmiris and that any era of development in the region can start only after the resolution of the vexed Kashmir dispute
The meeting was also attended by Ghulam Qadir Beigh, Advocate Moulvi Muhammad Ashraf, Peer Ghulam Nabi, AAC’s Youth Wing leader, Sofi Muhstaq Ahmad and Muhammad Sayeed Deedamarey and others and the participants promised the APHC Chairman that they would put in their all out efforts to ensure both the programmes are successful. After the meeting, Zaki was arrested, outside Mirwaiz Manzil, the spokesman added.
