Accusing the PDP-BJP coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir of having failed to address the problems of the people, the state unit of Congress Monday held a protest march as they attempted to gherao the Civil Secretariat.
Led by senior Congress leaders, including the JKPCC Chief G A Mir and former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, a large number of Congress workers gathered at Hari Singh Park and marched towards the civil secretariat.
However, their attempt to reach the civil secretariat was foiled by a large contingent of state police that was deployed near the Jammu Bus Stand.
They staged a protest and later courted arrested.
While talking to media, JKPCC Chief said that PDP-BJP coalition government has totally failed to address the problems of the people of the state.
“Since they (BJP-PDP) joined hands, the miseries of the people of Jammu and Kashmir have increased manifolds. While the BJP cheated people of Jammu, the people of Kashmir were cheated by the PDP,” Mir said.
He said that all the promises made to the people prior to the Assembly elections of 2014 remained unfulfilled.
“One year has passed but they have failed to fulfil any of the promises, be it the problems faced by the border residents, be it the problems faced by the farmers, be it the problems of flood victims, be it the problems of refugees and Kashmiri Pandits, this government has done nothing to address those problems,” JKPCC Chief said.
