Do course correction on alliance with BJP, Karra tells PDP

Member of Parliament Tariq Hameed Karra, who is also one of the founder members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), today asked his party to do a course correction on alliance with the BJP.

Do course correction on alliance with BJP, Karra tells PDPKarra said it was for the first time in free India that “Muslims in J&K were feeling their religion was in danger”.

“If we really want to protect the people of Kashmir, the PDP should take corrective measures. Let me tell you that the PDP-BJP alliance has done more harm than any benefit. Let us call a spade a spade. Let us go to our people and tell them that we have committed a mistake by (making an) alliance with the BJP. It can be a corrective measure,” he said.

The PDP leader is of the view that the PDP’s alliance with the BJP has done more harm than good to Kashmir and allowed the RSS to make inroads into the Valley.

“What the RSS could not achieve in the state during the last 60 years, they have done that in the last over six months and have been doing things under the carpet and over the carpet with the stamp and approval of the PDP. If they (RSS) continue to be there for the next six years, one can well imagine the fate of Kashmir. The incidents like Dadri lynching will take place on the roads of Muslim-majority Kashmir,” Karra told .

The 60-year-old MP is known as the PDP’s face in Srinagar and has been openly airing his views against the PDP-BJP alliance.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Karra defeated National Conference stalwart and former CM Farooq Abdullah from the Srinagar-Budgam parliamentary seat.
