Three local adventure sport athletes representing Kolahoi Mountaineers have scaled Kashmir’s highest mountain peak – Kolahoi.
It is after more than two decades that a local group has scaled the highest peak of the Valley which is counted among the toughest peaks to summit technically.
The group of five athletes who had gone on the expedition comprised Muhammad Junaid Dar, Shafkat Mohamed, Tauseef , Abid Bhat and Rouf .
While the first three scaled the peak of September 5, the last two stayed at base camp at Danwat till the expedition culminated.
“The team drove up to Aru on August 30 and settled in a local hotel to acclimatize for the night. On September 1, the team started at 10.00 am with gear loaded on three horses. This is the original route of 1935 of Hunt and Brotherhood and we have been exploring it for the last three years,” the Mountaineers said.
The group members said they had to go through a lot of difficulties to summit one of the toughest peaks of the region.
“Finally at 02:15 pm of September 5 the dream had been realized, the knife blade summit that slopes vertically towards Katarnag and Dudsar had been scaled”, they said.
The mountaineers thanked Naseer Mir for his guidance and also hailed their friends and supporters for their encouragement.
