The second edition of highly popular T20 league, Downtown Champions League T20 would start from Wednesday.
The organizing body of the event had cancelled the inauguration ceremony that was scheduled to be held on August 31 at Sheri Kashmir Cricket Stadium and instead decided to go ahead with the organizing of the league matches. “Due to paucity of time we were not able to make arrangements for the inauguration ceremony up to our satisfaction. We thought of postponing the inauguration. However, seeing the pressure from cricket lovers who want to see action on the field, we have decided to start the league without any formal inauguration,” said President T20 Sheikh Ashqiue.
“Our main aim is to give cricket fans of State something to cheer for. We respect their views and for that reason our organizing body has decided to leave aside formal inauguration and go ahead with league matches directly,” he said.
He said T20 matches would be played at two venues of City and daily four matches would be played.
“The matches would be played at Sheri Kashmir Cricket Stadium and Kashmir University grounds. Each day four matches would be played. The action begins from Wednesday and we are hopeful that like previous edition response from the fans for this event would be huge again,” he added. This year DCL T20 involve 16 franchisee teams as organizing body added four new franchisees this season. The bidding for players was held last Sunday in which around 380 players went under the hammer.
