Major security operation was launched by police and CRPF in Srinagar after the militant attack in Udhampur.
Special Operation Group (SoG) of Police and CRPF launched massive checking at Moulana Azad Road, Dalgate, Polo View, Lal Chowk and other areas.
“I was asked to stop my motorcycle and to show my identity. The cops searched my bag thoroughly,” said Adil Rashid, a student. “I was stopped yet again at the GhantaGhar for frisking. Many bikers were in line for checking.”
Similar scenes were seen at the points leading towards old city. Police officials said that frisking was going on at various points on Srinagar-Jammu and Srinagar-Baramulla highways. Today’s operation coincided with the massive protest rally taken by Rehbar-e-Taleem teachers in the city centreLalChowk leading to traffic chaos all around.
Talking to us, SSP Srinagar Amit Kumar said that in the wake of Udhampur attack, security has been intensified across Srinagar. “We have asked our men to maintain vigil. In the past it has been seen that militants try to carry out series of attacks at one time. As a precautionary measure, we directed our men to remain alert and go for frisking operation in the city,” he said. “There was no specific input or any concrete lead about any possible militant attack in the city.” He said police did not want to take any chance.
