Friday prayers allowed at Jamia Masjid after 8 weeks, Clashes erupt in Nowhatta post prayers

The state government led by ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), today allowed the mandatory Friday congregation prayers at historic Jamia Masjid, Srinagar after eight weeks. All the gates of the historic Masjid that remained locked for the past eight weeks were allowed to open by the state government today. Jamia Masjid is the traditional stronghold of Mirwaiz Family of Kashmir and the Friday sermons are delivered by the present Mirwaiz (head priest) Molvi Umar Farooq.
