Light rain, Snowfall at higher reaches today: MeT

• Gradual decrease in day, night temperatures in next two weeks : Lotus
• Traffic to ply from Jammu to Srinagar today on the highway

The Meteorological Department has forecast light rains and snow at higher reaches in the Valley for Wednesday.
The Kashmir Valley will witness a gradual dip in day and night temperatures during the next few weeks, officials said.

Director Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Centre Sonam Lotus told Kashmir Post that weather in Kashmir will likely remain cloudy with the possibility of light snow and rains at isolated places on higher reaches.

“There is no forecast of any major snowfall activity during the next 10 days. There will be more dip in day and night temperatures and weather will remain gradually dry in the region,” he said.

“The winter season has approached and it is a usual process that temperatures will witness more decrease gradually,” Lotus said.

Another official at the department said during the next 48 hours in Jammu and Kashmir, there are chances of very light snowfall and rains at isolated places in higher reaches.

As per the traffic advisory issued by traffic police headquarters, there will be one way traffic from Jammu towards Srinagar on the highway on Wednesday.

However, only stranded heavy motor vehicles between Ramban and Banihal shall be allowed towards Jammu.
Similarly on Mughal road, only downward traffic (load carriers) loaded with fruits will be allowed to ply from Herpora towards Poonch.
