EVM’s On Run: Multiple videos of EVMs stacked in cars, shops surface on social media

  • Several incidents of EVMs being stored in illegal cars and shops surfaced on Twitter
  • Opposition will move EC demanding VVPATs be verified in entire Assembly segment in case of discrepancies
  • Results for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections will be declared on May 23

Days before results for the fiercely fought Lok Sabha elections are declared, several videos of EVMs being stored and moved from one unauthorised storage house to another surfaced on Twitter. While some machines are seen stored at local shops, others are seen stacked in the boot of private vehicles.

In one such video, purportedly shot in Uttar Pradesh’s Chandauli, a group of men can be seen unloading scores of voting machines and VVPAT machines stacking them up inside a shop.

Another video was shared by an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) worker, who alleged that the video was shot in Punjab and two EVMs and a VVPAT machine were found lying in a car. She even levelled allegations against BJP.

In yet another video, a man could be seen alleging that EVMs were being brought in at a polling station in Jhansi without informing the candidates.

Meanwhile, mahagathbandhan candidate Afzal Ansari, who is contesting the Lok Sabha elections on a BSP ticket has alleged that EVMs are being replaced in Ghazipur.

This comes even as the Opposition is crying foul alleging EVMs are being tampered with. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has once again raised his suspicions about EVM manipulation. He also said that political parties are now busy protecting the machines as there were rumours that data stored was being changed using a frequency.

The TDP chief claimed manipulating an electronic voting machine was as easy as tapping a phone.

Opposition leaders led by Chandrababu Naidu will be visiting Election Commission on Tuesday to demand adequate VVPAT verification during counting.

The opposition parties are demanding tallying of VVPAT slips with EVM figures in an entire Assembly constituency in case a discrepancy is found in any polling booth.
