Campaign on to remove tourist’s fears about J&K

Ahead of the tourism season, the J&K Government has launched a major media and promotional blitz across India to dispel ‘fears’ among tourists about Kashmir, post the Pulwama suicide attack of February 14.

Some of leading Bollywood personalities will also be involved in promotional activities to project the peaceful face of J&K.
After the terror attack in which more than 40 CRPF personnel were killed, the tourism sector received a major setback, with large scale cancellations and travel agencies receiving requests to divert tours to other states, a blow to the already struggling hospitality sector of J&K.

Starting with a tourism conclave in Mumbai, the financial capital of country on March 26, the tourism department has decided to organise a series of meetings with leading travel and tour operators across the country in the coming weeks and organise promotional events for Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.

More than 200 travel agents, tour operators, destination management companies and tourism promoters from Maharashtra and Gujarat have extended their support to the tourism sector of J&K.

In the second week of April, a similar conclave will be organised near Tulip garden, on the banks of Dal lake.

“The Mumbai conclave was a major event, aimed to meet industry stakeholders and encourage people to visit J&K. Some of the leading tour operators attended the meet and gave a positive response to our efforts,” said Mushtaq Ahmed Chaya, chairman of J&K Hoteliers’ Club.

“Kashmir is as safe for tourists as any part of the country and negative perceptions being created about the Valley should not deter visitors from enjoying the warm hospitality of people here,” said Khurshid Ahmad Ganai, advisor to the Governor.
