Fayaz Ahmad Wani, youth killed during anti-CASO protest in Pulwama

A young man was killed and four others sustained injuries on Monday when government forces fired live ammunition into protesters during a massive search operation in several villages of Pulwama district.
The slain man has been identified as Fayaz Ahmad Wani son of Muhammad Ahsan Wani of Chewa-Kalan, Pulwama.

The operation occurred on the heels of recent abductions of policemen’s kin by militants in Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam and Anantnag.
A police official said government forces launched a massive search operation in more than a dozen villages including Murran, Dadora, Shangarpora, Goosu, Below, Kachipora, Rohmu, Frasipora and Mitrigam in Pulwama district.
He said that during the operation door-to-door searches were conducted.

According to the official, a group of youth at Chewa-Kalan village pelted the forces with stones. The forces fired into the protesters. One of the protesters sustained a bullet injury in his head. He succumbed at SMHS Hospital in Srinagar.
As the news about the killing of youth spread across the area, scores of young men at multiple locations in Pulwama hit the streets and threw stones at the forces deployed in the town.
The forces responded by firing tear gas canisters and pellets, injuring four protesters.
“Since morning we received a total of five injured persons. One among them with firearm injury later succumbed at SMHS, Srinagar,” said Abdul Rashid Parra, medical superintendent Pulwama district hospital.
