Court seeks report on mowing down of youth by police vehicle

The court of chief judicial magistrate Srinagar has directed SHO Noorbagh to file a status report in the case of Adil Ahmed Yadoo of Safa Kadal here who was crushed to death by a police vehicle on 5 May 2018.
The court issued directions after the family of the victim moved an application through counsels advocate Bashir Siddiq and Muhammad Ashraf Bhat.

The 18 year old youth was crushed to death by a police armoured vehicle in downtown Srinagar amid protests following a firefight between militants and government forces, a video clip that went viral over social media showed.
The police first said Adil died in a “traffic accident”, but following the video clip they issued a statement saying legal proceedings had been initiated against the driver of the police vehicle that crushed the youth to death.
“I have moved an application representing the victim family before the court. The FIR registered by police in this case is against unknown vehicle and unknown driver. The offence mentioned in FIR are rash driving (279 RPC), causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others (337 RPC). There is no mention of causing death by negligence (304-A RPC),” advocate Bashir Siddiq told Kashmir Post.

“I told the court that the video clip which went viral shows that the driver deliberately trampled Adil but no arrest had been made so far.”
He added that the court has directed the concerned SHO to file status report by or before 10 May 2018.
“We will go through the status report and decide further.”
