Four cops killed in IED blast in Sopore

Four policemen were killed in a blast in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Saturday.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Munir Khan said that four policemen were killed in the IED blast.

Three of the four policemen were identified as ASI Irshad of Doda, M Amin of Kupwara and Ghulam Nabi of Sopore, police said. The fourth policeman succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.

Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti said she was “deeply pained” at the deaths.

He said that three shops were also damaged in the blast. “The IED was planted beneath a shop,” said a source.
Three days ago, also in Sopore, unidentified gunmen shot dead a man Arif Maqbool Sofi, police said. The 25-year-old Sofi died on the spot.

Police registered a case and Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today condemned the killing.
