Ladakhi students hold Losar celebrations in Jammu

Minister for Ladakh Affairs and Cooperatives Chering Dorjay participated in the Losar celebrations organised by the All Ladakh Students’ Association, Jammu, here today.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister stressed upon the students to take a pledge to follow the path of righteousness as shown by the teachings of the 19th Kushok Bakula. He asked the Ladakhi community to strive for achieving quality education and serving the society by working for peace, love and compassion.
Dorjey said in Ladakh, Losar was regarded as the most important socio-religious event. “The festivities form an amalgamation of the ancient rituals, folk dance, music and other performing arts,” he added.
He said: “Losar is marked by ancient ceremonies that represent the struggle between the good and evil, symbolises throwing away of the evil and bidding farewell to the old year and welcoming the new one,” Dorjey added.
Highlighting the rich heritage and diversity of Ladakh, the minister said: “We represent a particular culture, language and nature, so we should strengthen the diversity which helps in flourishing the region.”
He hailed the establishment of blood donors’ group by the association to help the ailing people of Ladakh going for medical treatment to other states of the country.
